I have a "chopping" knife I am very happy with, despite the weight of it. I don't have the option of buying knives often. Maybe one in 2 or 3 years. I have had this "chopper" for a few years and used it alot. It is still doing great. I have the Schrade SCHF45 Bowie Knife. I love it and will stick with it until something happens to it that I can't use it anymore, as far as a "chopping" knife goes. It's the same way for my small knife for many uses... I have stuck with the Mora Companion for a few years now. I love the knife and the sheath it came with!
With so many good knives available in the market now, and a personal collection of about 200 knives, coming up with a definitive 5 knife list is near impossible. What I love with this vid is the discussion around the selections. If you're new to knives this vid will give you some good stuff to think about when selecting a knife. If I had to run out the door in a hurry I'd grab my tried & tested BK7 & Real Steel Snow Leopard and anything else after that would just be a plus. Sharp blades all.
I’ve been thinking about this topic for several years now as I’ve whittled my way down closer to a 100 knives. It’s tough...Just traded off my Becker BK7 for the Kabar Spartan Fighter. Still love my Real Steel Sea Eagle but I seem to keep Cold Steel Recon 1’s most handy...
great vid as always! what i really would be interested in is to see some footage of the Boker DBK bushfriend knife and sheath, especially compared to the TRC version... But as to this video, a top 5 of knives i handled/tested that comes to mind would be: 1: custom dark timber comanche 2: lefty spyderco PM2 3: custom claude bouchonville minowie 4: bark river bravo 1 5: wander tactical Uro
1. Spyderco Enuff 2 in K390, 2. Lionsteel M4 in M390, 3. White River Firecraft 3.5 in Magnacut, 4. Smith & Sons Axiom in Magnacut, 5. Lionsteel T5 in Niolox. I love your choices too!
It is hard to decide which 5 Knives!!! Ok… my standards - Edc- Reiff F3/ Hunting-Toor Mullet/ Outdoor,Survival- TRC M1 XDP/ Camp, carving so on- TRC Classic Freedom,Reiff F4/ Kitchen-also Fällkniven. Guys your Videos are great!👍👍👍
So my Top 5 1. Eastern Roadside (local maker) lil seppa 2. Same maker Full size Seppa 3. White River M1 backpacker Pro 4. Handmade in class Bowie 5. Bark River Custom Golok
for me the one is my Ranger rd6 in 5160 steel. Perfect for chopping, slicing, feathersticks, and easy to sharpen. Indestructible. Just add a custom kydex sheath and grind the too thick handle.
My 5 from my collection 1) Ontario Rat-7(chopping/batoning) 2) Bark River Bravo 1 LT in 3v(bushcraft/cooking) 3) Esee 3 in s35vn(hunting) 4) Cold Steel Recon 1 spear point s35vn(edc) 5) Esee RB3(bushcraft)
Maybe would trade the cold steel recon 1 for my paramilitary 2 in cru-wear. Either one would work well. The PM2 is my slicey but the recon 1 has way more tip strength. Yet with the cru-wear the PM2 would probably hold up decent. If I broke the tip I could always regrind it and make the tip stronger. Probably wouldn’t pry with my edc anyways that’s what my 3v Bark River would be for.
Current 5 top knifes out of the 7 i have. My logic on buying them was the same as yours on this episode though. Extrema Ratio Selvans Boker mini tracker Joker Nomad BPS Knifes HK1 Nextool Flagship Pro
Chopping and Stuff: Extrema Ratio Selvans Expedition ( expensive) or Terava Skrama (budget with double sheath and jaakarepuukko 85 as bonus blade in second sheath which is still less cost than Selvans) All Round Do Everything Tool: Survive! GTO 5.1 in 3V Bushcraft: DBK Bushcrafter Kitchen: ESEE 4 in S35VN EDCand Carving: Spyderco Manix 2 folder in Magnacut (Red Dragon) or Bark River Ultralight Bushcrafter fixed blade in 3V All of these blades are mine and they are loved and used (and abused!)
Based on some of your own testing Im surprised no mention of LT Write or Tops Storm Vector, but its a great list. Picking 5 specific models will melt my brain, but Id keep: A large chopper. An 8" chefs knife. A push dagger. A tough bushcrafter. A Leatherman. Meanwhile 99% of the time Im carrying a folder and a push dagger.
If you have 5 knives, having a fancy nl5 you abuse is ok... My top 5: Koenig Arius. Fidget and EDC. Best action I've ever felt on a knife. Chris Reeve Sebenza. hard use edc work knife. 8 inch Chefs knife. I like my Kramer/Zwilling Meiji Fallkniven A1x. Batoning, survival, camp tasks. Bark River Gunny Scandi. bushcraft, carving, feathersticking, backpacking, hunting. (you have sold me on both of these fixed blades and I love them)
1. Biegler bladeworks custom Archon tanto balisong. 2. Pro-tech TR-4 battleworn grey magnacut. 3. Griffin knives X series. 4. My great grandfathers original pattern buck 110. 5. My great great grandfathers Maher and grosh hawkbill swayback slipjoint.
EDC: Hinderer XM-18 Chopper/Batoner: Nepalese Kukri General Purpose/Bushcraft: Mora Garberg w/leather sheath Kitchen/Food Prep: Becker BK-5 Beauty: TBD (All of mine are utilitarian in nature. I want a nice looking production knife, potentially by bark river... but they can't seem to get their QC together)
1- Esee rb3. 1095 HC steel leather sheath That came with it 2-esee sencillo A2 steel currently has v edge kyadex sheath that came with it 3-Esee 4 g-10 3d scales 1095 HC convex edge at 20 degrees stripped paint and vinager patina rocking the original crappy sheath it came with, I kinda like it and it hasn’t broken yet so I haven’t replaced it yet. 4-esee 6 same deal as the esee 4 but with the esee6 instead. 5- leather men free P 4 multitool. I don’t have a blade for number five that I would be happy with but if I did have it I would choose esee butcher knife in 1095 HC steel, I don’t know the actual name for it but y’all should probably be able to find it online.
I’ve really been loving small custom fixed blades lately, the price is usually within 25% of a production knife (most of the time cheaper than bark river). There are a lot of makers so quality and variety is pretty competitive. It a bright spot in a knife world that is increasingly dominated by increasingly expensive legacy brands, or 50 new well made nondescript Chinese made budget knives every week.
@@nandayane I am similar in my thought about going 100% custom , but I am “allowed” to EDC my custom 9” blade from BCC, so I am all about large customs. And I agree about the legacy brands 🤷🏻♂️ $$$ 🤦🏻♂️ Something to add: people spending $350 on a custom sheath, for a legacy knife worth $200 - ish. That should smack them in the mouth and switch to custom knives. They are out there, and increasing in numbers.
Nice display of best quality "illegal to carry tools" you have. So, I also always have followed the concept of five favorite knives. Wow so alike we knife-entuthiastseem to be, but we also have some smaller differences, just like Mikkie and Marteen do. Here's my 5: 1. Hand-made Sami Leuku from Haparanda Sweden. 2. Any Mora you can wear and tear, for food, and detail carvings ... the 2000 😁... 3. Eka Nordic 12 for war, hunting, harder usage of course 4. Gentleman's pocket folder, to be nerdy or seem like a knife enthusiast 5. A multitool, SAK Peace out, knives in, dudes!!
1. Large: Hill Knives SOK 2. Medium: Fallkniven F1 CoS 3. Small: White River Ursus Cub 4. Neck: Boker BFF Packlite Black Richlite 5. Folder: Benchmade Barrage Mini And I would add a Granfors Bruk 415 Wildlife hatchet
I have many high end knives and all I know is if I could only take one… Reiff F6 is my choice. I work in a professional kitchen and use a knife 8+ hours a day. Lol, I can make any knife work for food prep. Thanks for the great content!!
@@michaelstjohn6086 it absolutely is. Sharpest SOB I've ever had right out of the box, screaming sharp scandi grind, no exaggeration!!! It also comes to a very pointy tip so it's a good penetrating knife as well. I absolutely love that knife and it's small enough to carry just about anywhere you go.
Guys I have a question I stopped counting at 600 pocket knives When I was 22Maybe 25My bushcrafting knives I have probably 7 or 8 of them None of them are that high quality like you guys show here why do you gotta admit I do admire them But I wondered why you guys don't show A video Your favorite knives in your collection Cause It would be awesome!!!!!!
Some good points I picked up from your Video. If you only are Keeping 5 knives, you really don't have room for the Budget Awesome knives. Those are excellent doe those who need work knives, have lower budgets to spend on knives, want to try out the hobby, or just want to be able to abuse their knives. Being limited to 5 means you gotta make every knife count. That all being said, even with only 5 allowed, I absolutely understand the desire for a knife that you KNOW you can use harder, and don't care. There is something absolutely freeing about having the knife you can break and it's OK. Kitchen knife, well after seeing this, I really want one of those kitchen knives!!! Looks amazing, and you are right, I absolutely use my kitchen knives more than any othe knives. I'd still give myself the grace of saying that Kitchen knives don't count (and then fill my kitchen block with wonderful multipurpose knives like the Victorinox Venture, and other flat grind knives, small knives instead of paring knives and such.... but THATS CHEATING and I know it....
Tough question! If I can’t have DBK knives or folders I think I would agree with Martin and the TRC Apocalypse with my own convex edge would be as a Survivor #1. A Bark River Cub 3V as a belt general purpose knife #2...Bark River Fox River EXT-1 in Magnacut for hunting and smaller tasks #3...and my beater (most used) knives of many year’s: Fallkniven S1 and Benchmade Puukko as 4 & 5. Good to hear Micki has a girlfriend finally, but I fear for his survival with his “Mini Mentality” ...LOL
My knives. 1. Origin Knives, Woodsman 2. William Collins, WCSK 3. William Collins, Northern Cub 4. Swiss army knife (your choice) 5. Greater Gurkha Khukuri, 16" Old Rana Maar
I’d keep: 1. Bark River Bravo 1 LT 3V. 2. Fällkniven F1. 3. Cold Steel Recon Tanto VG-10. 4. CRKT Minimalist 5. Cold Steel Mini Pendleton Hunter VG-1. (But honestly, I regret selling my Bravo Sentry. If I still had that knife, it would replace the Cold Steel MPH.)
If i had to survive a zombie apocalypse with only 5 knives to rely on, i would choose these: Tajima Precision Craft GRI 360 (with disposable 9mm blades) - For precision tasks like opening plastic packaging & peeling electrical wiring, emergency surgery, etc. A nameless 6€ Chinese stainless pseudo-damascus cleaver with a finger hole - Only for food prep. LightMyFire FireKnife (Stainless blade by Mora; modified to have convex-edge and sharper spine) - Only for carving wood and starting campfires. Rokka Korpisoturi (N690 Stainless version) - For general purpose use; every day carry. J-P Peltonen Sissipuukko M95 (Cerakote version) - Mainly for batoning and chopping firewood.
One of my top 5 always has to be a skinner, the MKC Stonewall Skinner (magnacut). Not skinning game with a bushcraft or survival knife if I don't have to.
I only have one outdoor knife so i can't do this comparison on my own. Watching you two do it was as always, the highlight of my friday morning. My one knife is a Mora Garberg, i got it because god told me to get it while watching my first DBK videos. It's an old design but i'm surprised its not here, mine is on my belt, in my pack or in my truck at all times. It would be on the table, even if I had your collection
The 5 I own are my little Lambs foot by A Wright, my blacksmith made hatchet for chopping, a mora carving knife, a Helle knife for general stuff and Hultafors knife for abuse.
1. Rokka korpisoturi 2. Cold steel SRK 3V 3. Any of my Lauri puukko's 4. Skarma 200 5. Mora Gardberg I also have a Sissipuukko M07 on its way i bet it's going to be high up in my list and my possible WW3 pick 😂

Thank you so much! It felt really impossible haha.

great vid as always! what i really would be interested in is to see some footage of the Boker DBK bushfriend knife and sheath, especially compared to the TRC version... But as to this video, a top 5 of knives i handled/tested that comes to mind would be:

2. Same maker Full size Seppa
3. White River M1 backpacker Pro
4. Handmade in class Bowie
5. Bark River Custom Golok
I always enjoy the different knife topics you guys come up with.👍
Bark river bravo 1
SOG Pillar
Benchmade Osborne
Condor Kukri
Leatherman Wave.
Halfbreed Blades Medium Infantry
Fallkniven Freja
Bark River Clip Point
Work Tuff Gear Chanto
Lon Humphrey Gunfighter Bowie
for me the one is my Ranger rd6 in 5160 steel. Perfect for chopping, slicing, feathersticks, and easy to sharpen. Indestructible. Just add a custom kydex sheath and grind the too thick handle.
My 5 from my collection
1) Ontario Rat-7(chopping/batoning)
2) Bark River Bravo 1 LT in 3v(bushcraft/cooking)
3) Esee 3 in s35vn(hunting)
4) Cold Steel Recon 1 spear point s35vn(edc)
5) Esee RB3(bushcraft)
Maybe would trade the cold steel recon 1 for my paramilitary 2 in cru-wear. Either one would work well. The PM2 is my slicey but the recon 1 has way more tip strength. Yet with the cru-wear the PM2 would probably hold up decent. If I broke the tip I could always regrind it and make the tip stronger. Probably wouldn’t pry with my edc anyways that’s what my 3v Bark River would be for.
1 UTG Survival
2 Skrama 20 cm
3 CS Kukri
4 Rokka Puukko
5 Terävä Jääkäripuukko 14 cm 9:53
Current 5 top knifes out of the 7 i have. My logic on buying them was the same as yours on this episode though.
Extrema Ratio Selvans
Boker mini tracker
Joker Nomad
BPS Knifes HK1
Nextool Flagship Pro
Super great video. Thank you.
Chopping and Stuff: Extrema Ratio Selvans Expedition ( expensive) or Terava Skrama (budget with double sheath and jaakarepuukko 85 as bonus blade in second sheath which is still less cost than Selvans)
All Round Do Everything Tool: Survive! GTO 5.1 in 3V
Bushcraft: DBK Bushcrafter
Kitchen: ESEE 4 in S35VN
EDCand Carving: Spyderco Manix 2 folder in Magnacut (Red Dragon) or Bark River Ultralight Bushcrafter fixed blade in 3V
All of these blades are mine and they are loved and used (and abused!)
Based on some of your own testing Im surprised no mention of LT Write or Tops Storm Vector, but its a great list.
Picking 5 specific models will melt my brain, but Id keep:
A large chopper.
An 8" chefs knife.
A push dagger.
A tough bushcrafter.
A Leatherman.
Meanwhile 99% of the time Im carrying a folder and a push dagger.
If you have 5 knives, having a fancy nl5 you abuse is ok... My top 5:
Koenig Arius. Fidget and EDC. Best action I've ever felt on a knife.
Chris Reeve Sebenza. hard use edc work knife.
8 inch Chefs knife. I like my Kramer/Zwilling Meiji
Fallkniven A1x. Batoning, survival, camp tasks.
Bark River Gunny Scandi. bushcraft, carving, feathersticking, backpacking, hunting. (you have sold me on both of these fixed blades and I love them)
Extrema Ratio Kreios Expedition.
Extrema Ratio Selvans Expedition.
Coldsteel 5MAX.
Coldsteel 4MAX.
Coldsteel FM-1 Atlas.
That's mine top 5
Great discussion, enjoyed it, loved the chat and some great selections
1. Biegler bladeworks custom Archon tanto balisong.
2. Pro-tech TR-4 battleworn grey magnacut.
3. Griffin knives X series.
4. My great grandfathers original pattern buck 110.
5. My great great grandfathers Maher and grosh hawkbill swayback slipjoint.
EDC: Hinderer XM-18
Chopper/Batoner: Nepalese Kukri
General Purpose/Bushcraft: Mora Garberg w/leather sheath
Kitchen/Food Prep: Becker BK-5
Beauty: TBD (All of mine are utilitarian in nature. I want a nice looking production knife, potentially by bark river... but they can't seem to get their QC together)
Easy. Victorinox Climber, Spyderco Delica K390, Shirogorov F95, Bark River Bravo 1.25 LT and DBK 10th year edition.
1- Esee rb3. 1095 HC steel
leather sheath
That came with it
2-esee sencillo A2 steel currently has v edge kyadex sheath that came with it
3-Esee 4 g-10 3d scales 1095 HC convex edge at 20 degrees stripped paint and vinager patina rocking the original crappy sheath it came with, I kinda like it and it hasn’t broken yet so I haven’t replaced it yet.
And I agree about the legacy brands 🤷🏻♂️ $$$ 🤦🏻♂️
Something to add: people spending $350 on a custom sheath, for a legacy knife worth $200 - ish. That should smack them in the mouth and switch to custom knives. They are out there, and increasing in numbers.
DBK! trc apocalype: survival
BR aurora 2: carving/foodprep
Bear claw WTG: batoning
Leatherman wave: tasks
Coldsteel tai-pan (japanese): killing😂
Zo wat denken jullie daarvan😉
Nice display of best quality "illegal to carry tools" you have. So, I also always have followed the concept of five favorite knives. Wow so alike we knife-entuthiastseem to be, but we also have some smaller differences, just like Mikkie and Marteen do. Here's my 5:
1. Hand-made Sami Leuku from Haparanda Sweden.
2. Any Mora you can wear and tear, for food, and detail carvings ... the 2000 😁...
3. Eka Nordic 12 for war, hunting, harder usage of course
4. Gentleman's pocket folder, to be nerdy or seem like a knife enthusiast
5. A multitool, SAK
Peace out, knives in, dudes!!
1. Large: Hill Knives SOK
2. Medium: Fallkniven F1 CoS
3. Small: White River Ursus Cub
4. Neck: Boker BFF Packlite Black Richlite
5. Folder: Benchmade Barrage Mini
And I would add a Granfors Bruk 415 Wildlife hatchet
Nice job on the landscaping 👍
1. Spyderco Shaman
2. Cold Steel Master Hunter San Mai
3. Ka-Bar Large Heavy Bowie
4. Victorinox Rangerwood 55
5. Morakniv 2000
I have many high end knives and all I know is if I could only take one… Reiff F6 is my choice.
I work in a professional kitchen and use a knife 8+ hours a day. Lol, I can make any knife work for food prep. Thanks for the great content!!
A great vid
Really enjoyed your discussion
Excellent
1) 240 skarma 80crv2
2) 140 jaakaripukko 80crv2
3) paltonen m23 ranger cub 62 hrc 80crv2
4)malanika leuku cruwear
5) Spyderco stretch 2 k390
is the M23 a wood laser like it looks to be?
@@michaelstjohn6086 it absolutely is. Sharpest SOB I've ever had right out of the box, screaming sharp scandi grind, no exaggeration!!! It also comes to a very pointy tip so it's a good penetrating knife as well. I absolutely love that knife and it's small enough to carry just about anywhere you go.
@@jimmycricket7946 thinl I'll take your rec. and get one !
Does not include my top 5 multi tools, axe’s, saw’s, shovel’s or Boom Stick’s...Just Say’n
You guys are just brilliant in this video🎉
1 Dulo dbk k390
2 Rob Evans mk 1 cpm 154

My favorite 1) machete kedai cowboy 2) knife of DIY 3) kitchen knife masterchef 4) knife cukur gillete 5) knife rambo hardware
I’d keep:
1. Bark River Bravo 1 LT 3V.
2. Fällkniven F1.
3. Cold Steel Recon Tanto VG-10.
4. CRKT Minimalist
5. Cold Steel Mini Pendleton Hunter VG-1.
(But honestly, I regret selling my Bravo Sentry. If I still had that knife, it would replace the Cold Steel MPH.)
like how you gyys reached to the conclusion! for me Esee SK6, that same Rokka Korpisoturi and 3 folding knives, probably all from Spyderco
I like ur Videos a lot becouse ur 2 people who dont always agree but also argue very well why something is better and u always agree after the facts
Five fixed knives is not enough 😂
But:
#1 Rob Evans MK2
#2 Malanika Puukko
#3 Bark River Gunny
#4 Victorinox Santoku
#5 Bark River ULB
If i had to survive a zombie apocalypse with only 5 knives to rely on, i would choose these:
Tajima Precision Craft GRI 360 (with disposable 9mm blades) - For precision tasks like opening plastic packaging & peeling electrical wiring, emergency surgery, etc.
5 Mora Robusts. Sorted. 😂
Other than that, an axe and saw.
One of my top 5 always has to be a skinner, the MKC Stonewall Skinner (magnacut). Not skinning game with a bushcraft or survival knife if I don't have to.
Can you guys test the White River Knives Sendero and Sendero Pack knives? They are production models of custom Jerry Fisk designs.
If I don’t get the DBK knife next week I’m spending the money on OF…so frustrated 😭
😉
1. Marttiini Tundra
2. Terävä Skrama
3. Iisakki Järvenpää Leuku
4. Roselli Mummonhammas
Only 4 is needed 😊
Hi, my list is:
1. Cudeman nordico bs9, sandvik
2. Cudeman mt5, bohler n695
3. Kizlyar suprime sensei, aus 8
4. Hougue ex-f01 tanto 7", A2
5. Tops SXN skullcrusher, 1095
Saludos.
Thank you so much for your kind words
My 5 pick , fällkniven original F1 vg10 Steel, Roselli Hunter. Victorinox Spartan. Leatherman multitool . Frost Mora kitchenknife.
Love how you guys whittled the list down 😁
The 5 I own are my little Lambs foot by A Wright, my blacksmith made hatchet for chopping, a mora carving knife, a Helle knife for general stuff and Hultafors knife for abuse.
Don’t have a top 5 knives, but you 2 are hilarious and great to watch 👍🏻🤜🏻👌🏻
Definitely the N5L over the F1!!
Why would you choose any knife for EDC, that isn't a Swiss Army Knife, or other multitool?
When you toss a knife aside, how often do you lose them or forget that you tossed it?
Too often sadly..
1. Rokka korpisoturi
2. Cold steel SRK 3V
3. Any of my Lauri puukko's
4. Skarma 200
5. Mora Gardberg
I also have a Sissipuukko M07 on its way i bet it's going to be high up in my list and my possible WW3 pick 😂
